The N°06 is the smallest Opinel equipped with the Virobloc double safety system. The N°06 knife is ideal for outdoor and sports activities, but is also used for manual work (crafts, sewing). Its size is particularly suitable for smaller hands.
Hardness 55-57 HRC. Origin from Europe.
The stainless steel of Opinel blades is of particular quality and offers both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance.
The blade has excellent sharpness and high abrasion resistance (wear resistance), which allows it to withstand regular contact with hard materials such as ceramics before needing resharpening. Stainless steel has the advantage that, unlike carbon steel, it does not require special maintenance under normal conditions of use. Nevertheless, it can reach its limits if it comes into contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, dish soap, etc.) for extended periods.
Yatagan blade
The traditional Opinel blade is called Yatagan. Its shape is inspired by a Turkish saber with a raised tip. The blade was ground according to an exclusive, curved profile and guarantees robustness and easy resharpening.
Handle
Beech is the most commonly used wood for making Opinel knife handles. The beech wood comes from France, is hard, resistant and easy to work with. It has a homogeneous appearance and the light color varies from yellowish to pink. The wood can be recognized by its many small, dark streaks. The handle has been varnished to provide better protection against moisture and dirt.
Safety ring (locking ring)
The Virobloc safety ring was invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel. It is present on all folding knives from model N°06 onwards. The Virobloc is cut from stainless steel and consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safe use), it is now also possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safe transport).
