Robust and timeless

The N°09 is one of the first knives invented by Joseph Opinel in 1896. Just like the rest of the Tradition collection, its excellent design has survived all eras. The reliable and solid blade measures 9 cm and is made of stainless steel. It ensures a high-quality cut and is very resistant to corrosion. The beech wood used for the handle guarantees solidity and comfort. This knife is suitable for any use and will always be a good companion for hobbyists.

Hardness 55-57 HRC. Origin from Europe.
The stainless steel of Opinel blades is of particular quality and offers both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance.
The blade has excellent sharpness and high abrasion resistance (wear resistance), which allows it to withstand regular contact with hard materials such as ceramics before needing to be resharpened. Stainless steel has the advantage that, unlike carbon steel, it requires no special maintenance under normal conditions of use. Nevertheless, it can reach its limits if it comes into prolonged contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, dishwashing liquid, etc.).

    Yatagan blade

The traditional Opinel blade is called Yatagan. Its shape is inspired by a Turkish saber with a raised tip. The blade has been ground according to an exclusive, convex profile and guarantees robustness and easy resharpening.

    Handle

Beech is the most common wood used for making Opinel knife handles. The beech wood comes from France, is hard, durable and easy to work with. It has a homogeneous appearance and its light color varies from yellowish to pinkish. The wood can be recognized by its many dark, small lines. The handle has been varnished to be better protected against moisture and dirt.

    Safety ring (Virobloc)

The Virobloc safety ring was invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955. It is present on all folding knives from model N°06 upwards. The Virobloc is cut from stainless steel and consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safe use), it is now also possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safe transport).
